E-N-G Mobile Systems, LLC Announces New Facility In Cumberland County
E-N-G Mobile Systems, LLC, a specialty vehicle manufacturer, has announced that it has selected Cumberland County for the location of a new facility. This project will result in the creation of 60 full-time jobs, over the next three years, and a total capital investment of $2.3 million.
In a statement this afternoon, Governor Roy Cooper said, “Manufacturers know they can find the skilled workforce they need to grow their companies here in North Carolina. E-N-G was also looking for a business-friendly location on the East Coast near their diverse customer base and North Carolina is a perfect fit.”
Headquartered in Concord, California, E-N-G has pioneered many design breakthroughs for the mobile television news industry, earning a reputation for innovation and creativity. It sold its first Electronic News Gathering vehicle in 1977, quickly becoming known for building quality solutions for broadcasters. The company has since broadened its product line to include vehicles for mobile laboratory, wireless/cellular infrastructure, communications, incident command and control, utilities, and other technical applications. Its customers include the US Army, Navy, FBI, Department of Homeland Security, state health and environmental agencies, water and power providers, police departments, cities, and high-tech companies.
E-N-G’s new location on Tom Starling Road will be its first expansion on the East Coast. “We chose to locate our business in Cumberland County due to the skill sets of potential employees, vocational & technical training opportunities, and the availability of retiring military personnel,” said Dr. Craig Vanderwagen, E-N-G’s Chairman of the Board and Director. “We are excited about the commitment to economic and business development that is evident in this community and are eager to be a partner in these efforts.”
Cumberland County endorsed the company’s application for a “One NC Grant” through the NC Department of Commerce. The Department awarded $180,000 to the project based on job creation, with the County providing the required $60,000 match. “Cumberland County’s pipeline of experienced and available workers makes it easy for companies to locate and rapidly expand here,” said County Commissioner Chair Jeannette Council. “We expect to see even more job growth and investment in the near future.”
Additional assistance from the NC Department of Commerce includes a diverse training package from the North Carolina Community College System. Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC) was involved in the recruiting process and will be managing this program. “Manufacturing companies of all sizes, making everything from jets to jelly beans find success in North Carolina,” said Secretary of Commerce Anthony M. Copeland. “E-N-G’s new home in Fayetteville will prove to be a great move for the company as they expand their footprint here.”
The 60 full-time jobs will be manufacturing positions offering comprehensive benefits packages. Salaries will vary by position but will average $43,558, higher than the county average wage of $36,425. E-N-G is expecting to begin operations by late-2019 and will be accepting applications for sales reps, fabricators, carpenters, administrative professionals, welders, shipping and receiving workers, and maintenance staff. The company will be seeking candidates on online job sites like Indeed and Zip Recruiter and on Fort Bragg’s SFL-TAP website.
The Fayetteville Cumberland County Economic Development Corporation (FCEDC) worked with E-N-G to identify a location, evaluate the building, and connect the company with assistance programs. Andrew Pennink, the Chairman of the FCEDC Board of Directors, said, “We are thankful to all of the partners that played a role in making this project a reality. Together, we are building the future of our community and demonstrating to the world that Cumberland County is open for business.”
