Aug 18, 2020 | Press Releases

As our regional economy emerges from the Coronavirus shutdown, Cumberland County’s diversified industry base is poised for growth. For those looking for employment, or wanting to make a change, there are currently thousands of career opportunities available on ncworks.gov and more than 500 local job openings in manufacturing, distribution, and professional services. As operations pick back up, so does the need for personnel. With Cumberland County’s local educational resources and strong ties to Fort Bragg, employers know that we have the highly skilled workforce they need.

“Cumberland County is home to a resilient business community with numerous career-centric opportunities,” said Robert Van Geons, President and CEO of FCEDC. “We want to get the word out that there are quality jobs available immediately. Even in this difficult time, our local businesses and industries are hiring.”

The following positions are immediately available and range from entry-level to experienced, with some offering more than $22/hour and full benefits packages. For more information, or to apply, visit fayedc.biz/aug20jobs.

Manufacturing

The manufacturing sector in Cumberland County is expanding, as innovative grilling manufacturer Dansons will be our newest addition. The company is currently hiring for 118 full-time jobs and is looking forward to the experienced workforce to help grow its global brands. Along Tom Starling Rd. in Fayetteville, you will find Cambridge-Lee Industries LLC (CLI), one of the world’s largest manufacturers and distributors of copper tubing. CLI has openings for assemblers. Mechanics and engineers are also in high demand for companies like Nitta Gelatin and Chemours—especially those who were students in Fayetteville Technical Community College’s (FTCC) and/or Fayetteville State University’s (FSU) engineering fields. For those with welding experience, Nitta Gelatin is hiring maintenance mechanics. Amongst many other positions, Chemours is on the search for electrical and instrumentation engineers, process engineers, and mechanical engineers. Fayetteville-based Union Corrugating is an industry leader in metal roofing materials and building supplies and is hiring for inventory control associates, production machine operators, and loaders. Lastly, shop and electrical technicians are needed across the board for vehicle manufacturer E-N-G and sustainable material manufacturer Clear Path Recycling, LLC.

Distribution

Graduates from FTCC’s commercial driver’s license program or those already in the transportation and distribution sector can benefit from the variety of career opportunities in Cumberland County. For example, Taylor Express is hiring more than 20 local and long-distance licensed drivers to transport goods across the South and Southeast. As Campbells Distribution Center recently announced the need for 30 jobs to be filled, so did international home textile distributor Keeco, which recently announced 50 new positions ranging from entry-level to managerial. One of the largest employers in Cumberland County that has the most career opportunities is the Walmart Distribution Center in Hope Mills. As it continues to ensure our community’s supply chain is thriving, more than 100 jobs are open. With the recent increased demand for goods due to COVID-19, Walmart is looking for entry-level freight handler PATs and provides on-site training.

Business Services

In addition to manufacturing and logistics jobs, there are ample office-setting opportunities available. Service Source, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to support those with disabilities, has current openings including, but not limited to assistant director-rehabilitation, Friendship House program manager, benefits liaison, and general clerk at the VA. International IT consulting company eClerx, also recently announced its need for 175 employees by December 2020—proving consistent success in Cumberland County, after adding 150 jobs during its expansion in 2018. Positions include customer care, team leads, office assistants, and help desk technicians.

These companies understand the challenges of enhanced safety requirements and have successfully met or exceeded them by investing time and money into the community’s physical and economic health. From socially distanced shifts to strict PPE requirements and no-touch kiosk temperature checks, they are continually updating their procedures to ensure a safe working environment. For more information on these job opportunities, please visit fayedc.biz/aug20jobs.
