Today, the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) announced approval of a project for Commonwealth Construction Company of Fond du Lac in Ripon, Wisconsin. The Jefferson Street Apartment project will provide affordable housing for workers in the major expansion at Alliance Laundry and will be within walking distance of the Alliance facility.
According to WHEDA Executive Director Wyman Winston, Commonwealth Construction Company is the largest provider of affordable housing in the State of Wisconsin.
Commonwealth Construction is also a major contributor to the development of the Arts District in Fond du Lac. The company purchased the Trinity Methodist church adjacent to the Windhover Center for the Arts converting it to a new restaurant. Additionally, Commonwealth constructed affordable apartments targets for artists adjacent to the Trinity. This complements the $6 million expansion of the Windhover.
